CYBER FRAUD OF ₹2.36 LAKHS SOLVED BY PS CYBER, NORTH-EAST DISTRICT, Delhi Police
ONE ACCUSED ARRESTED | 35,000/- AMOUNT FROZEN | ONE MOBILE & TWO SIM CARDS RECOVERED
On 04.06.2025, a complaint was received at PS Cyber, North-East District, regarding a cyber fraud involving ₹2.36 lakhs. The complainant, Shri Gareeb Nath Gupta, a resident of Sonia Vihar, Delhi, who runs a small tea stall at Seelampur Bus Stand, reported that his Samsung keypad mobile phone containing an active SIM card was lost on 27.05.2025. Subsequently, between 28.05.2025 and 02.06.2025, a total of ₹2.36 lakhs was fraudulently withdrawn via UPI transactions from his wife’s bank account using the lost SIM.
Taking swift cognizance of the matter, a case under Sections 303(2)/318(4) of the BNS was registered at PS Cyber/NED. A dedicated team led by Insp. Rahul Kumar (SHO/PS Cyber NED), comprising SI Mohit Kumar, HC Girish, and Ct Abhishek, was constituted under the overall supervision of ACP Mangesh Gedam.
Through meticulous technical surveillance and analysis of digital footprints, the team identified that the fraudulent transactions were routed through an Airtel Payments Bank account linked to another stolen mobile phone.
Based on the gathered evidence, the team successfully apprehended the accused Monish (21 years), resident of Janta Mazdoor Colony, Welcome, Jafrabad, Delhi. During interrogation, the accused revealed that he is a mobile phone repair mechanic and used to buy stolen mobile phones, often with active SIM cards, from unknown persons at low prices. He exploited UPI-linked bank accounts associated with these numbers to commit fraud.
Upon his arrest, one mobile phone and two SIM cards used in the commission of the offence were recovered from his possession. Furthermore, ₹35,000/- of the cheated amount has been successfully frozen.
Further investigation is in progress to trace other individuals or networks connected to the accused.
