The Delhi State Powerlifting Association organised two-day Delhi State Men and Women Powerlifting Championship 2017 at MRV Model School in Sector 13, Dwarka.
The event received an overwhelming response from powerlifters across Delhi, and a couple of them also set new records. International Powerlifter and International Category 1 Referee of the International Powerlifting Federation, Ashok Kumar Sharma, who is also one of the founding members of the Delhi State Powerlifting Association, was excited at the new records being set by Amit Kumar in 400 Kg squats and Bhaskar Shah in the 265 kg bench press.
Sharma reminisced his eventful journey and how he has represented India from 1983-2017 in powerlifting championships across the world, won medals and brought glory for the country. "The game requires hard work and dedication, and it is certainly not for those who are the glamorous kinds," said Sharma.
A few champions and participants also shared their thoughts on how they opted for powerlifting, their diet plans, exercise regime, and their major takeaways from this event.
