New Delhi, India - February 20, 2024 - Fairway FairPlay Charitable Trust, in association with the family of the renowned astronaut Late Kalpana Chawla, is proud to announce the commencement of the 1st Kalpana Chawla Memorial All India Women's Cricket Tournament. This initiative is a heartfelt tribute to the memory of the distinguished astronaut, aimed at celebrating her spirit and achievements.
The tournament was inaugurated today by MP and MOS Meenakshi Lekhi, along with Shri Sanjay Chawla, brother of astronaut Kalpana Chawla. It will take place at the prestigious Siri Fort DDA Sports Complex, renowned for its excellent facilities, located in the vicinity of Delhi. Promising to be a memorable event, it will bring together talented female cricketers from across the nation.
The tournament will feature a 40-over format, utilizing a red ball and white attire, providing a platform for players to showcase their skills and passion for the sport. Each participating team will have the opportunity to compete in three league matches, fostering healthy competition and togetherness among participants.
Fairway FairPlay Charitable Trust is committed to recognizing and rewarding excellence, with a total prize money of Rs. 30,000 for the winners and Rs. 20,000 for the runners-up. Additionally, outstanding performances will be acknowledged on an individual level, with cash prizes awarded to the standout players of each match. The tournament will culminate in a grand finale where the best batter, best bowler, and player of the tournament will be honored.
