Our guest in today's episode is cricketer Shivam Sharma, who plays for Kings XI Punjab in IPL, and though he loves to bat by choice but is a bowler by default. He captained the Delhi Under 19 and North Zone Under-19 cricket teams.
"I owe a lot to my mother who used to carry my kit, school bag and sometimes even me in the sweltering heat as I went to practice after school. I was barely seven or eight years old then, and she put in a lot of effort to make me a cricketer," he says.
He started off as a top-order batsman, but as luck would have it, Sharma was selected in the Under 19 team as a bowler. "I took seven wickets in my first match, and that was quite incredible," he recounts.
Listen on to know how his coach, Naresh Jain shaped his sporting career, his first day on the crease at the IPL match and how taking Yuvraj Singh's wicket remains his favourite moment. But he advises youngsters to stay put and not be disappointed with failures. Sharma talks at length on how he handled rejections and stood firm against odds to rise and shine in cricket.
