In this shocking cyber fraud case, a poor tea seller from South Patel Nagar, Delhi became the victim of a fake Paytm KYC scam. A fraudster posing as a Paytm employee visited his shop and, on the pretext of updating Paytm settings and KYC on his mobile phone, gained access to the device and fraudulently transferred Rs. 90,000 from his bank account.
After receiving the complaint, PS Cyber Central, Delhi Police registered FIR No. 26/2026 dated 15.05.2026 U/s 318(4) BNS and launched a detailed investigation. Keeping in view the gravity and interstate nature of the crime, a dedicated police team comprising SI Ravinder Kumar, HC Deepak and HC Jai Kishan was formed under the supervision of SHO/Cyber Inspector Yograj Dalal and overall supervision of ACP/OPS/Central Shri Padam Singh Rana.
The team conducted sustained technical surveillance, beneficiary account verification, bank transaction analysis, CCTV examination, digital profiling and financial trail analysis. Investigation revealed the existence of an organized interstate cyber fraud network involved in supplying bank accounts, SIM cards and ATM kits used in online cyber scams.
Delhi Police tracked the money trail to a Punjab National Bank account and identified the accused operating from Haryana and Punjab. Multiple raids were conducted in Panchkula, Zirakpur and adjoining areas, leading to the arrest of three key accused persons linked to the cyber fraud module on 19.05.2026.
This case highlights how cyber criminals are targeting innocent citizens through fake Paytm KYC updates, mobile access scams and online banking frauds. Citizens are advised never to share mobile access, OTPs or banking details with unknown persons claiming to be from Paytm or any bank.
