Delhi Police organised a self-defence training camp for girls of the Government Co-Ed Senior Secondary School, Sector 6, Dwarka, in the wake of rising crimes against women.
"The girls need to develop confidence and inculcate a sense of belief that they can protect themselves if need be. More than 150 girls from Classes 9 and 11 attended the camp. We plan to have a longer camp during the summer vacation so that all our girls can avail the benefits of this training," said Usha Singh, teacher.
Delhi Police has been organising such camps across the city schools and colleges since 2002.
"We train girls in self-defence techniques. It comes in handy in times of need. Even if they can remember one or two techniques, it would stand them in good stead to protect themselves when in danger. We also have a gender sensitisation programme from boys," said Meenakshi, Constable, Delhi Police.
The students lapped up this opportunity, and young girls participated in large numbers.
