In this episode, our guest Karuna Srivastava, a former government servant, tells us how she spent her early years in Delhi, Allahabad and then completed her Class 10 and 12 from Ghaziabad. She completed her master's degree at the age of 18 from Allahabad University and enrolled for her doctorate from Delhi University.
But after getting a job with the defence ministry, she was slightly distracted and could not focus on her PhD. She got married, and life went on a different track, and she had to leave her doctorate mid-way. "My focus was on getting a government job as my father was about to retire and after his retirement, finding a house for my family was a big issue. So I couldn't pursue it."
She applied for the job of programme executive at AIR and stood first in the exam. She has worked as a researcher on countless books on military history, and most of these are still available in the ministry of defence library.
With a deep interest in music, she recounts how it shaped her career path at AIR. After retirement, she has been quite regular in Dwarka's cultural circuit.
She urges parents to take care of their children and notice interest and give an adequate push to pursue that passion as a career. "It will be a fruitful investment which will yield good returns," she says.
