Screening helps in early detection of cancer: Dr Anil Kumar DharYou need a browser with JavaScript!
As a part of its initiative to raise cancer awareness, Radio Dwarka interviewed oncologist Dr Anil Kumar Dhar from Venkateshwara Hospital, Dwarka, to know more about lung cancer, its symptoms, causes, and cures. Lung cancer is an abnormal and rapid growth of cells in the lungs that hampers the growth of normal cells. If not treated on time, it may spread to other organs such as the brain, the liver and adrenal glands. A prolonged cough that doesn't cure even after taking the conventional form of treatment, blood in sputum, breathlessness, headache or migraine, dysfunction of the liver, etc., are the common symptoms of lung cancer. "Active and passive smoking contribute to lung cancer in equal measure," he said. Another factor that contributes to lung cancer is pollution. "Screening can help in the detection of cancer at an early stage that will increase it chances of being cured," Dr Dhar said. Three types of treatment — surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy — are offered to a cancer patient.
