Hypertension is like slow poison: Dr Ashish AgarwalYou need a browser with JavaScript!
Dr Ashish Agarwal, interventional cardiologist, Artemis Hospital, Dwarka, tells listeners that in a layman's language, hypertension is high blood pressure. "Most people aren't aware of it — 50% don't know about if they are suffering from hypertension, 50% who know, don't take medicines to keep it under check and for 50% who take medications, can't keep it under control. It is a slow poison."
It is a degenerative process and most common for people who are above 70. "But it is common among younger patients too," he says.
He highlights the symptoms, but it can still go undetected. "Only if a patient gets his blood pressure checked frequently, and still it remains high, then it is actually high BP."
