Bhagavad Gita: The Manual of Life Episode 24- Adhyay 2, Shlokas 9 & 10
In this episode, Amog Lilla Dasji discusses how a smile is a curve that can straighten a lot of miseries and lead one to knowledge. He delves deeper into how silence and smile hold the key to one's success.
In Shloka 9, Sanjaya informs Dhrishtrashtra that Arjuna is overwhelmed with grief. He has put his foot down and addresses Lord Krishna as Govinda and told him that he doesn't want to go to war with his kith and kin. He then silently waits for Lord Krishna to respond.
Dhrishtrashtra is happy to know that the mightiest warrior of his times is unwilling to go to war. Sanjaya then asked an excited Dhrishtrashtra to hold his horses as Lord may let this happen.
In Shloka 10, Lord Krishna has a subtle smile on his face that puts Arjuna's doubts to rest. He then spoke to Arjuna, who was still lamenting the fact that he has to go to war with his loved ones, at the most inappropriate time while standing on the battlefield. The word prahasan means Lord's smile indicates subtle sarcasm and evokes anger at the impropriety of timidity by Arjuna, a respected and renowned warrior. His smile also shows that Lord is empathising with Arjuna's predicament. It reflects Lord's concern and affection, and he is ready to accept Arjuna as a disciple to take him out of this dilemma with his knowledge, intelligence and prowess. He has brought a ray of hope to lead Arjuna out of this darkness and take over as his teacher now on.
