World Health Day | Eat healthy and exercise regularly

On the World Health Day, Radio Dwarka visited Artemis Hospital and spoke with the doctors to know about the common problems related brain, heart, lungs and how one could stay healthy.
Dr Sumit Singh, Director, Neurology Department, explained the common neurological disorders and detailed the symptoms of Parkinson's Disease. "A person who has Parkinson's has shaky hands and legs, slow movement of limbs and body, and stooped posture while walking," he says.
But he also told that there are four other ailments whose symptoms match that of Parkinson's. The low production of dopamine in the brain is a cause of the disease. "It can't be cured but can surely be controlled with proper medication," he says.
He also doled out an important piece of advice for the younder generation. He said that one must exercise on a regular basis, avoid junk foods and sleep and wake up on time to stay healthy.
Dr Vipul Gupta, Co-director of Stroke Unit, explained the two types of stroke — a blockage in the blood vessel of brain or haemorrhage in the blood vessel of brain.
"One in six person suffers from brain stroke. It is the third most common cause of death and disability," says Dr Gupta.
The seven precautions that a person can take to prevent from falling prey to brain stroke are keeping one's diabetes, hypertension, cholestoral under check, avoid smoking, do exercise, keep weight under control and adopt healthy eating habits.
The six hours after a stroke are crucial to reverse the effect of a brain stroke. "Time is the key. One must get these parameters checked," he says.
The minor manifestations of the problem start before the stroke strikes big so one must watch out for those symptoms.
If one sees changes in a person's face, arms, speech, then one must act quickly and immediately rush that patient to a hospital that has a specialized centre to treat stroke cases.
Dr K Sandhu, Director and Cardiologist, highlighted the steps to be taken to keep one's heart healthy. "One should start early to keep heart healthy. One must eat healthy, exercise and keep stress levels under check."
Dr Sandhu also explained the meaning of golden hour. "If you feel heaviness and breathlessness, then get the tests done to ascertain the cause and take steps to cure blockage if there is any."
He urged all to adopt an active and a healthy lifestyle.
"Being healthy is not just absence of disease but being positively healthy," said Dr Pratibha Dogra, pulmunologist.
She urged people to be aware of diseases to nip the health problems in the bud.
