Our guest in today's episode, Monika Sanajpati calls herself happiness personified, spreading cheer all around. She takes us through her early years, and how her mother single-handedly took care of two of them, her brother and herself. "We are originally from Chandigarh. My father was ailing for a long time and passed away in 1991. It was a tough time as my mother was illiterate, but she did a lot of odd jobs to look after us while we were there and before moving to Delhi. My brother had to leave his boarding school, and two of us did our schooling from a government school," she says. She found a job at the age of 17 and then went on to join a foreign-based onboard courier company at 18, having lived in America and England. She takes us through her career journey, and how she married a Bengali man at 19, and how life took a turn for good. "I continued working in the office, and thankfully my husband and in-laws helped me a lot in learning about Bengali delicacies," she says. Blessed with three daughters, and a son, she quit her job. "I have started working as a freelancer and take care of my husband's business of food supplements in between raising my children," she says. As someone who has struggled a lot in her life, Monika wants to be a role model for her children and says, "They need to keep a chin up even if the odds are stacked against them, if at all."
