Khas Mulakaat | Pratibha Singh | Infusing Life Into Canvas
When English Literature post graduate takes up painting, she is sure to construct visual images with poetic feelings and touch of imagination. And that is what Pratibha Singh’s canvases exhibit - surreal world of dreams and imagination. Addressing her emotional movements, her canvas showcases bold figures,
spontaneous strokes forceful lines, bringing to life the entire picture surface. Pratibha’s artistic journey began from her childhood days in Varanasi when she was always hooked to crayons and poster colours. Whenever she sketched, it was eloquent and creative and her parents appreciated and encouraged
her a lot. Over the period she realized that life without canvas and colour is indeed colourless for her and she continued pursuing it as a hobby even though she took up English Literature in Post
graduation. After marriage to S.K.Singh, an engineer, she shifted to Delhi. Her husband realized her potential and persuaded her to join Triveni Kala Sangam in 2001. Since then Pratibha is associated with Triveni Kala Sangam as artist under personal guidance of Rameshwar Broota. She has her studio in Triveni Kala Sangam. Pratibha has till now has executed numerous art work in the medium ranging from Charcoal on paper to acrylic on canvass to oil on canvass. Her favorite medium however is oil. She explains, “Oil paint has the shining brightness which cannot be found in any other medium. Besides, oil paints offer lot of flexibility.” About the underlying theme of her work Pratibha informs that her brushwork is contemporary art and varies from subject to subject. She has painted a series on mantras, morning hour, nature, social issues. Pratibha chooses subjects of her paintings from day to day life
and correlate the theme with her daily life. She also tries to depict a balance in nature - the harshness of the mechanical forms as depicted by the machines blended with the softness and mellowness of the human forms. Pratibha has showcased in many group and solo shows. Pratibhas works have been favourites with a number of corporate houses as also with hospitals and private collectors. Presently she is working in mixed media on her series which she calls ‘networking.’ She has also got senior fellowship in Painting from Cultural Ministry.
